Cycling on the islands of Kvarner Bay & the Zrmanja Canoe
A combination of sailing and bicycling on the islands with a one-day canoe excursion in the Zrmanja canyon.
Itinerary
Day 1, Saturday
Boarding between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm in the port in Rijeka. Soon afterwards we shall set sail in the direction of Malinska on the island of Krk. Here we shall begin with the first stage on bicycles: from Malinska we shall ride over St. Anton, Nenadica and Vrha towards Krk, the main city on the island bearing the same name. Dinner on board the boat and overnight stay in the port in Krk (approximately 22 km bicycling).
Day 2, Sunday
Today we shall sail from Krk to Lopar on the northern part of the island of Rab. By bicycle we shall cross the entire island from the north heading south towards Supetarska draga, Kampora, Rab, Barbata and Pudarice to Misnjaka only to meet up again with our boat in the port in Rab under the unique contour of the old town with its four striking bell towers. We can have lunch at one of the restaurants on our bicycle route or in Rab. Dinner and overnight stay in the port in Rab (approximately 43.5 km).
Day 3, Monday
We shall set sail towards Lunu, on the protruding and most northerly point of the neighboring island of Pag. The island is a mesmerizing island of contrast - in some areas desolate like the surface of the Moon, while in other places rich with fields of aromatic grass where numerous flocks of sheep come to graze and the milk of which is used to make Pag’s famous cheese. We shall then head towards Novalja, the main town of the northern part of the island and here we shall have the opportunity of eating lunch in one of the many restaurants or taverns. We shall continue through Kolana and ride towards Mandre where our boat will be waiting for us in the port. Dinner on board and overnight stay in Mandre (approximately 35 km).
Day 4, Tuesday
After breakfast we shall take the bus to Obrovac and from there sit in a large canoe (capacity: up to 10 people) and paddle upstream to the Jankovica buk waterfall. Around noon we shall have a picnic and take a short break for swimming - just picture swimming underneath a waterfall in a crystal clear river … We shall continue to paddle through the Zrmanja canyon known for its unique landscapes, contours and bird population. Then a bus ride to Zadar where we shall board our boat. Dinner on the boat and overnight stay.
Day 5, Wednesday
Today we will have quite a bit of sailing to do: approximately 4 hours from Zadar to Mali Losinj located on the island of Losinj. Along the way we shall drop anchor in the cove of one of the smaller islands south of Losinj to have lunch on the boat. When we enter port in Mali Losinj, we shall unload our bicycles once again in order to familiarize ourselves with the unique and beautiful natural surroundings of the vast pine forest of this island. We shall bicycle along the shoreline of uvala Cikat, through Suncana Uvala to the picturesque fishing town of Veli Losinj. You can have dinner at one of the many restaurants in Mali Losinj which is where we shall be spending the night (approximately 21.5 km).
Day 6, Thursday
“2 islands” Day. After breakfast more pedaling from Mali Losinj through Nerezina to Osor, where there is a bascule bridge that connects the islands of Losinj and Cres. Lunch on the boat in Osor. Through Beleja and Stivana we shall arrive at Martinscica cove. We load the bikes on the ship and sail on to Cres, the capital of the island, for the overnight stay (approximately 46 km).
Day 7, Friday
We start our final cycle tour in Cres and go 12 km worth wards to Predoscica and back. Time for lunch in Cres. We load the bikes for the last time and sail to the bay on the north side of the island for a last swim in the blue Adriatic before we head back for Rijeka. Dinner on board and overnight stay (approximately 24 km).
Day 8, Saturday
Departure after breakfast. Disembarkation until 9 am.
Note
- In some bookings there is a combination of sailing and bicycling on the islands with a one day canoe excursion in the Zrmanja canyon near Obrovac. Due to the fact that this canoe safari excursion is headed by experienced canoe instructors and guides no prior experience is necessary.
